The Forester Wilderness trim gets several styling updates that bring it up to date with the rest of the Forester trim lineup. The Wilderness also gets a revised suspension with 9.3 inches of ground clearance (compared to 8.7 inches for the other Forester trims). The Wilderness also gets Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud drive modes, an improved transmission cooler, improved approach, departure, and breakover angles, and larger all-terrain tires.

The main difference is right in the names: the Forester has a gas engine, while the Forester Hybrid gets a hybrid engine. The Forester Hybrid gets a fuel economy of 35 mpg city, 34 mpg highway, and 35 mpg combined. The Forester gets 26 mpg city, 33 mpg highway, and 29 mpg combined. The Forester Hybrid also gets 194 horsepower, a bit more than the 180 horsepower for the regular Forester.
